The cuban mojito recipe

  • 2 teaspoons of sugar
  • The juice of half a lime (enough to cover the sugar)
  • 2 mint sprigs
  • Muddle well
  • 9 cl of sparkling water (2 parts)
  • 4.5 cl of havana club añejo 3 años rum (1 part)
  • 4 ice cubes
  • Stir well

I'm going to teach you how to make a good Mojito.
You've come to the Bodeguita del Medio
where we've been making them since 1942.
The place where Ernest Hemingway
used to come every day for one.
So, get ready, because when I've finished
you're going to be able to make it just like I did.
It's very easy.
The only thing we need is a glass,
preferably cylindrical.
In it we're going to put some white,
granulated sugar.
The equivalent of two teaspoons.
Then we're going to add some fresh, green lemon,
the equivalent of half a lime.
Enough so that it covers all the sugar.
Then we add two fresh sprigs of mint,
stalks and all.
Because the stalk is fundamental
as that is what gives the Mojito
its aroma and freshness.
Next we're going to add some sparkling water.
The equivalent of 9 centiliters.
And we press it well so that
the mint juices are released,
the natural juices which give it
that characteristic flavour.
Havana Club Añejo 3 años rum
4.5 centiliters.
And we finish with 4 ice cubes
In Cuba, we never use crushed ice.
An absorber.
Here we have a real Bodeguita del Medio Mojito.
Come on, here's to the Mojito.
Hey, how's it going?
